In an effort to build the iPhone development community in Baltimore and the surrounding areas, Ray Wenderlich of www.raywenderlich.com, has offered to take the talk he gave at the 2010 360iDev conference, "iPhone Programming 101", and turn it into a two day workshop:  Saturday, December 11th and Sunday, December 12th.

Course Description From Ray:
"The course will be covering a lot of the topics we’ve been discussing on this blog, such as:

  • How to choose the right Application template (or build from scratch!)
  • How to make a simple iPhone app with a UIView and the most useful controls
  • How to respond to orientation changes
  • How to use navigation controllers
  • How to use table views – and make them look good!
  • How to save application data (with the right way for the right situation!)
  • How to port your app to the iPad
  • Using UISplitViewController and UIPopoverController
  • And much more!

This course is tailored for beginners to iOS development, or for those who would like a refresher on their foundational knowledge. It will be focusing on beginner UIKit topics only – not game programming or advanced topics."

Lunch will be provided both days and there will be door prizes and giveaways at the event.

As a benefit to the establishment of the iPhone dev community in/near Baltimore, Ray and I are going to subsidize much of the costs and ask for only $10 to attend.

Bring your Macs, iPhones, and iPads if you have them and any spares too!  Don't worry if you don't have one, you can team up with someone who does in class.  A deep interest in software development or experience with C or Objective-C will be greatly beneficial to you as an attendant as well.

The location is currently being finalized but will most likely in downtown Baltimore and as a backup near BWI airport.  It depends on how big of a space we need.

Feel free to share this with others.

Email Shawn Grimes to discuss sponsorship opportunities, we need items we could give away as door prizes and to attendees:  shawn@shawnsbits.com
